Attention all you basketball fans: A new play detailing the infamous Magic vs. Bird rivalry is coming to Broadway.

According to the Associated Press, Eric Simonson, the playwright responsible for bringing "Lombardi" --based on the legendary former Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi  to Broadway, is working on a play based on the on court drama between NBA Hall Famers and former rivals Larry Bird and Earvin “Magic” Johnson (that was a mouthful). The play will be produced in association with the National Basketball Association.
The story will trace the two basketball stars’ rivalry and friendship from their days as rookies in the NBA to their appearance on the Olympic Dream Team in 1992. The six-character play is scheduled to debut on Broadway in 2012. The script is currently in development. Johnson and Bird will participate in the creative process.

This sounds like a play even the most *sings* “macho macho man” (I’ve been trying to work that song into the blog for the longest :-) will enjoy!
