BLAST FROM THE PAST: MICHEL'LE

Posted by: Roxxanne Roxxanne

So the other day I was enjoying one of my favorite past times -- listening to Jamie Foxx's Foxxhole radio show on Sirus and one of the show's featured guest was former Ruthless recording artist, Michel'le.

Her appearance made me wanna ask, where the hell you been?

To take you Chicks and Dicks back, Michel'le Toussanit was a popular R&B singer in the late 80s and early 90 signed to the late rapper Eric "Eazy E" Wright's Ruthless record label.

Michle'le was best known for talking like this...

But singing like this...

Michel'le was first featured on the chorus to the group, The World Class Wreckin' Cru's (which included later NWA group members Dr. Dre and DJ Yella) 1987 single "Turn Off the Lights."

Then in 1989, Michel'le released  her self-titled album on Ruthless Records.  The album was produced entirely by Toussaint's then-boyfriend, super-producer Andre "Dr. Dre" Young and it spawned two top ten hits with, "No More Lies," which even charted to no. 7 on Billboard's top 100 and "Something in My Heart."  The album  has reportedly sold 2.7 million copies worldwide.

Toussaint released her sophmore album "Hung Jury" in 1998 on her *correction:* ex-husband (Michel'le recently explained on her new TV One reality show, R&B Divas, that she was informed by the IRS that her marriage to Suge was invalid because he was still married to someone else when Michel'le and Suge wed.)  former boyfriend, Marion "Suge" Knights' label Death Rows records, but the album failed to mirror her previous album success.

Michel'le is currently playing spot dates around the country and is rumored to be working on a third album. To find out more info on what Michel'le has been up to click here to visit her official website.

In related news, Michel'le has a son with ex-boyfriend Dr. Dre and a daughter with ex-husband Suge Knight, who she sued in 2009 for his failure to pay more than $40,000 in child and spousal support.

Rumor has it, that Michel'le's relationship with Suge was a factor in Dre's departure from Death Row.

Michel'le's "No More Lies"

I thought Michel'le was super pretty back in the day (she sort of resembled Stacy Dash) and I absolutely ADORED her single "Something In My Heart." I remember people using the song title as a running joke.

Hey, did you hear Ms. Thomas died? No, why? Because there was something in her heart! *bada-dum pum!*

It may sound lame now, but that joke was fun-tee as hell back then.

Sidebar: who knew Miche'le was literally keeping it all in the family with Dre and Suge...things that make say hmm indeed.
