Louis: Yeah, I'm in this piece. What it do, BAB-BEE

According to People, Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock has adopted a 3 ½ -month-old baby boy from New Orleans, she named Louis Bardo Bullock (named after jazz legend Louis Armstrong).

Bullock exclaimed to People,
"He's just perfect, I can't even describe him any other way." "It's like he's always been a part of our lives."
Bullock and her soon to be ex-husband reality star Jesse James, reportedly started the adoption process four years ago and finally brought Louis home in January.

Bullock and James decided to keep the news private until after the Oscars Awards.

However, not long after the Oscars, Bullock and James separated after news broke that he had been having multiple affairs while still married to Bullock.

Bullock is now finalizing baby Louis' adoption as a single parent.

Bullock also reportedly filed for divorce from James on April 23 in Austin, Texas, where she maintains a home and discreetly used her backwards initials “B.A.S.” and James's initials "J.J.G" on the paperwork.” Isn’t baby Louie the cutest little munchkin ever?
"Her legal filing indicates that both she and Jesse are seeking an amicable settlement and that there will be no children at issue in this divorce."
I’m so happy for Sandra that her adoption is being finalized!

As the old adage goes, if it didn’t rain, we wouldn’t have rainbows…and baby Louie is most definitely the rainbow with the pot of gold at the end!

Ok, so I watched the Real Housewives of New York (RHNY) last week and I have my thoughts on last week’s episode. Like to hear it…well here it goes!

So, I totally understood how Bethenny Frankel-Hoppy (“I’s married now) felt at the event that all of the RHNY attended, when by the end of the night she was over (for now at least) the whole trying to salvage her friendship with Jill Zarin phase.

Bethenny was noticeably curt with Jill (with Bobby in tow of course), when she finally mustered up the courage to congratulate Bethenny on her engagement nuptials.

My guess is that the last couple of interactions Bethenny has had with Jill probably flashed before her eyes (e.g. (1) Bethenny in tears on the phone with Jill trying to understand what happened in their friendship only for Jill to make a mockery of her emotions by placing her on speaker phone so that LuAnn and Jill’s other house guests could hear/comment; (2) Bethenny in tears at Ramona’s apartment pleading with Jill to talk her; and (3) Jill fleeing like a bat out of hell anytime Bethenny enters the same room as her) or at least played in her mental rolodex, and she was probably thinking, you know what, this shit is for the birds, I’m done!

Check out more of my RHNY recap after the break!

According to MTV News, rocker Bret Michaels suffered a stroke last week. While being hospitalized for his injury, Michaels was diagnosed with a condition that could lead to severe seizures. For this reason, the musician still remans in intensive care.

Michaels, who is 47 years old, suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage stroke last week. The stroke causes bleeding in the fluid-filled spaces around the base of the brain and could have proven fatal. Reps for the rocker say that the unnamed hospital where he is staying plan additional tests to determine the cause of the rupture. Read more.
Seriously, what’s going on? It seems like every since Michael Jackson’s untimely passing in June of last year, every month or so some celebrity has either died or been hospitalized as a result of a serious health condition.

I know regular folks die or are hospitalized every day, but it’s like we’re condition to believe that celebrities have super powers and therefore we’re shocked when we learn a celebrity has died or has been hospitalized due to a serious (sometimes life-threatening) health condition.

Anyway, I wish Bret a speedy and safe recovery!

According to HSK, Guru’s father, the Hon. Harry J. Elam, a retired Massachusetts superior court judge, sent police to assist him in retrieving Guru’s body from John “Solar” Mo’Sher aka Guru’s fugazi ass manager.

Guru’s father, [] called to recover the body from John “Solar” Mo’Sher, Solar said that he was taking the body upstate for a private memorial.

Judge Elam immediately made claim to the body and asked Solar to “return the body at once”, to which Solar replied that he would return the body if Elam Sr. called off the Elam nephew from continuing to make statements and videos about Solar. Claims which Solar continues to call false.
Judge Elam’s reply, “I don’t have time for these childish games, send my sons body home immediately.”
Following this exchange the police were sent and Guru’s body was recovered and is currently on its way back to Boston, to his family and to lay in honor as they see fit.
Not only should Solar return the body with[]out delay, but Solar should return to the family all rights supposedly passed on to him from Guru on his deathbed. These should be held by the family in TRUST until [Keith Casim, Guru’s sole heir], is of legal age to handle himself.
This shady motherphucker Solar needs to take a pill or two!

I can’t recall ever hearing Guru’s name involved in some scandal BS. So if you “love” Guru so much Solar (By the way, your name is wiggety wiggety wack! Signed, The Whole World), why not chill and allow that man to rest instead of having his name affiliated with all this drama?

Inquiring minds want to know Milky Way Solar…

On another note, did you Chicks and Dicks know that Guru graduated from Morehouse College with a degree in business administration? No you say, me neither!

Guru also briefly worked as a social worker and took graduate courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology before leaving to pursue a career in rap.

Dr. Dorothy Height, “the godmother of the Civil Rights Movement” died yesterday at age 98 at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Dr. Height dedicated her entire life to fighting injustices against African-Americans, women and children EVERYWHERE!

Dr. Height was never married and is survived by her sister, Anthanette Height Aldridge of New York and every generation she inspired!

My mother and my two sisters had the pleasure of speaking on the same panel as Dr. Height and they also had the pleasure of having lunch with Dr. Height in 1999, at a fundraising event for the Children’s Scholarship Fund in Atlanta Georgia.

My mother was in awe of how, although Dr. Height was soft spoken, as soon as she began to speak her voice immediately commanded audiences' attention.

My mom also said that Dr. Height was so impressed with the speech my youngest sister (who is now in medical school, what up “Med School,” we miss you!) gave at the fundraising event that she congratulated my sister and asked if she could join them for lunch at their table.

Below are some GREAT facts about Dr. Height that I ganked from the Washington Post and I also included several pictures of Dr. Height stylin' as she ALWAYS did, in her signature hats.

Dr. Dorothy Height Facts

  • She held the position of president of the National Council of Negro Women for 40 years.

  • As a high school senior and the valedictorian, she won a national oratorical contest, and with it a $1,000 college scholarship. But the college of her choice, Barnard in New York, had already admitted its quota of black students. Instead, she went to New York University, where she graduated in three years and received a master's degree in educational psychology in her fourth year.
  • In the 1940s she lobbied first lady Eleanor Roosevelt on behalf of civil rights causes.

  • In 1994, Bill Clinton awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.

  • President Obama called Ms. Height "the godmother of the Civil Rights Movement and a hero to so many Americans." She "devoted her life to those struggling for equality . . . witnessing every march and milestone along the way."

  • Ms. Height helped orchestrate strategy with movement leaders including the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Roy Wilkins, A. Philip Randolph and John Lewis, who would later serve as a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

  • In August 1963, Ms. Height was on the platform with King when he delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial.

  • Dr. Height was later disappointed that no one was advocating for the rights of women of the many people who spoke that day at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Less than a month later, at King's request, she went to Birmingham, Ala., to minister to the families of four black girls who had died in a church bombing linked to the racial strife that had engulfed the city.

  • When President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act in 1963, Ms. Height was among those invited to the White House to witness the ceremony.

  • In response to a public TV program, "The Vanishing Black Family," Ms. Height helped create and organize the Black Family Reunion Celebration, which has been held on the Mall and in cities across the country annually since 1985.

  • Ms. Height was among the few women to speak at the Million Man March on the Mall.

  • Ms. Height made money through jobs such as ironing entertainer Eddie Cantor's shirts and proofreading Marcus Garvey's newspaper, the Negro World.

  • Louis Farrakhan, the chief minister of the Nation of Islam, said in reference to Dr. Height, "I am here because you are here."

  • She went nightclubbing in Harlem with composer W.C. Handy.

  • She got her start as a civil rights activist through the Rev. Adam Clayton Powell Sr., pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem (Rev. Adam Clayton Powell Jr., represented Harlem in the U.S. House of Representatives).

  • Mary McLeod Bethune, president of the Harlem YWCA, was impressed by Ms. Height's poise and style in greeting the president's wife, and she promptly offered her a job.

  • Ms. Height became national president of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority in 1947, and she held that position until 1957.

  • On her 92nd birthday, she received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest decoration Congress can bestow.

"I came up at a time when young women wore hats, and they wore gloves. Too many people in my generation fought for the right for us to be dressed up and not put down."

US Weekly caught up with R&B singer Christina Aguilera and this is what she had to say regarding her comparison/beef with Lady Gaga.
“It just comes with the territory. That, in particular, is not even worth wasting the breath to comment on,” she sniped. “I’ve been around for over a decade and I think my work speaks for myself.”

If she were younger, “I would have engaged, been a little upset,” she says. But now? “There’s a bigger picture out there. I’ve got my son, my family, my work.”
Chile please…don’t get me wrong I ADORE Xtina, but I’m tired of artist “comin' for (e.g. talking greasy/slick/sideways)” other artists for NO legitimate reason other than they shinnin' right now, and the dissin' artist wants some light!

Not even a moron would confuse Xtina and Lady Gaga’s music/style.

I think they are in two TOTALLY different categories. Both artists are extremely talented -- e.g. they can both sing live and sound exactly like their recording and they can dance their little patooties off, BUT they’re different in their musical stylings, style, genre, etc…

Lady Gaga is somewhere rapping to Lil Kim, “Can’t we all get along, and make hit songs, bitches all up in my ass like a thong…

I can FINALLY excitedly say that CIARA IS BACK!!!

Ciara’s new Ride video just premiered and all I can say is…that’s a BAD BITCH (term of endearment for you non-hip folks)!!! I personally get tired of people using that phrase so loosely.

However, I’m all for SALUTING one, when it’s appropriate.

In Ciara’s Ride video, she can be seen doing an ode to Janet Jackson’s (Ms. Jackson, if you’re nasty) Pleasure Principle video, by doing a solo dance performance while singing.

Can I just talk about Ciara’s body for a second. I’m mean seriously, I’m strictly dickly, but I couldn’t help but just look at “it” in amazement!

Her gear is on point (me likey the floor length fur coat, bathing suit look); she has legs for days; her stomach is ripped but not overly body-builderish, her “dip it, pop it, twerk it, stop it” moves are DISGUSTING (a term of admiration)…BRAVA CIARA!!!

The video features Ludacris and was directed by Diane Martel who also directed Ciara’s Love Sex Magic video featuring Justin Timberlake. The song was written and produced by popular writer/producer duo Tricky Stewart and The Hamburgler Dream.

Downloads for the clean and dirty version of Ride will be available in the U.S. on April 27, 2010, and the song will be featured on Ciara’s new album Basic Instinct which will be out this summer.

Keri who?

Check out Ciara's Ride video after the break!

(l-r DJ Premier and Guru)

Wow, I was just about to log off my computer, when I saw a tweet former MTV VJ/VH1 host, Lala Vasquez (fiancé of Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony), stating that legendary Gangstarr member Guru (DJ Premier is the other founding member) had died.

According to AllHipHop, Keith Guru Elam “succumbed to cancer after a lengthy bout with the disease.”

Guru was only 43 years old.

This is really sad news for Guru’s family and friends as well as the entire Hip Hop community.

Our deepest condolences go out to Guru’s family and friends.

According to the Associated Press, rap veteran Nas, was cleared of the civil contempt charges in connection with his pending child support/divorce matter, with soon to be ex-wife, singer Kelis.
A Los Angeles judge dismissed the contempt allegation against the rapper Monday (April 12) after he paid nearly $50,000 in child support to his estranged wife Kelis (kehl-EES').
Nas says, "All I want to do is make music and raise my kids. Nothing else matters."

In related news, Nas and Damian “Junior Gong” Marley are currently putting the finishing touches on their new album, Distant Relatives, which will reportedly be out this summer.

Kelis will also be releasing an album this summer. Fleshtone, the singer’s 4th studio album will reportedly be released on July 6, 2010. Kelis’ current single Acapella, is tearing up the dance charts!

I think these two have done a pretty decent job in handling the media attention surrounding their divorce.

Neither one of them has really bad-mouth the other spouse in public.

Kelis gets a pass for her twitter rant from last summer because she was pregnant and obviously felt abandoned by Nas during her time of need. I have to admit, her rant was funnier than mug though!
All the scumbag coward husbands and the less than impressive sluts unite! You can all go down in flames together! Hooray! “Who’s disgusted and bitter? LOL, not I said the cat! Wink wink.”
Anyway, I’m sure these two are doing a superb job raising little adorable Knighty (I know his name is Knight) and will eventually form a friendship (if they haven’t already) and work together as parents in the best interest of their child.

Wale is on his “I will NOT lose” shit, and I ain’t even mad at him!

The newcomer teams up with Chris Brown and Fabolous on the remix to “Pretty Girls.”

Never fret folks, Weensy of DC’s Backyard Band (BYB) vocals are still on the remix version, and the remix is DISGUSTING!!!

Who is BYB? That’s another discussion in itself, but let’s just say Genghis aka Slim Charles from the critically acclaimed HBO hit

The Wire would MOS DEF co-sign BYB for 12 even 3 reason!

1) Wale added a mean new verse

2) C-Breezy got his swagger ALL the way back! He is killing the vocals and he even switches it up and flows a little bit on the track.

3) And last but CERTAINTLY not least, my main man a hundred grand, Fabolous…is a PROBLEM! The “quotables” on Fab’s verse are never-ending and he repped SO HARD for the ‘District’ and he ain’t even a native son, APPLAUD THAT MAN!

Last night I had so much bubbly that I let one suck me and she called it BWI (that stands for Baltimore-Washington International Airport, get familar!).
Style keep shittin on dem call it flyier-rea
Now if Wale can do a checkmate and make a video for remix version of Pretty Girls that authentically captures DC’s swag: from shopping in Georgetown and Tyson’s Corner to get fly; to grubbing on hawaiian steak at Houston or fajitas at Lauriol Plaza; to hitting up Takoma Station or The ParkWale could make up for the less than impressive original video.

What can I say about my city that hasn't already been said...oh, WE LIKE DAT YOUNG!

Listen to remix to Pretty Girls below!

KELIS' INTERVIEW WITH LONDON'S SUNDAY TIMES, "I will literally kill you. If it’s between you and my kid, you do not have a chance." PLUS FLASHBACK VIDEO!

Kelis on loving her 30s

My mom always used to tell us, ‘Your twenties? Whatever. In your thirties you’ll be your most beautiful, your sexiest, your smartest.’ I’ve been through so many life changes getting here, it’s, like, she was right.

Kelis talks about her current single Acapella being about her new son Knight and the “foodie” words she uses to describe him

‘[B]efore you, my whole life was acapella’ — like, before you came I was singing alone, there was no music. Kelis’ says little Knight is “scrumptious”, “delicious”, “yummy”!

Kelis on being in labor for 67 hours and how she’ll MURK someone over Knight (awe!)

WHAT YOU SAY, SHE AIN'T NO DIVA! MIA ON LADY GAGA: "She sounds more like me, than I phucking do!"

Posted by: Roxxanne Roxxanne

Ok, so our girl Maya “MIA” Arulpragasam is featured as one of the 10 cover features for NME magazine. She sat down with the magazine for an interview, and let’s just say she didn’t mince words when speaking about Lady Gaga and the current state of the music industry.

In future decades, how will people look back on music in 2010?

I’m not sure, but music now should be like a sonic massage. You want to really feel it, internally. The police use sound cannons at public protests that explode people’s inside with a single note - human beings have to come up with the opposite of that.

What place does politics have in music today?

I’m always encouraging people to be more vocal. Google’s more powerful than any government now - people think it’s God. They’re storing all our data and one day they’re gonna turn against us. That’s what my new album’s about - I’m living fucking proof that politics doesn’t work. Every time I breathe it’s documented on my computer and yet I’m still on some stupid list somewhere that says I’m a terrorist.

Do we still need record labels?

Are they even interested in making money from music anymore? Lady Gaga plugs 15 things in her new video. Dude, she even plugs a burger! That’s probably how they’re making money right now - buying up the burger joint, putting the burger in a music video and making loads of burger money.

Do you think those programmes and the internet have destroyed the mythology around popstars?

I don’t know. Again, there’d Lady Gaga - people say we’re similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same! None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I fucking do! That’s a talent and she’s got a great team behind her, but she’s the industry last’s stab at making itself important - saying, ‘You need our money behind you, the endorsements, the stadiums’ Respect to her, she’s keeping a hundred thousand people in work, but my belief is: Do It Yourself.

What’s more important to you - performing live or making records?

Making records is my art, but if you’re an artist, questioning a lot of things it’s important to have that live space what you do isn’t gonna be twisted and manipulated.

How important are image and visuals to your music?

Very. But it’s not like “Haus of Gaga” (laughs). Me blindfolded with naked men feeding me apples and shit.

Who or what is the enemy of music right now?

Money is always the enemy of music.

Is it still possible for a musician to ‘sell-out’ in 2010?

Back in 2003 I was in a bedsit, hand-spraying very 12-inch and just wanting to make art. Everybody gets turned into a product push so fast - these weird fucking ‘hipster’ parties promoting Red Bull or whatever. There’s a difference between saying ‘no’ to everything and ‘yes’ to everything. I’m not fucking Coldplay because I said ‘no’ to certain things. When I did my ‘selling-out’ show for MTV they made me a hundred grand and I built a school with it in Africa.

Would you ever make a record for a Twilight soundtrack?

They asked me. Luckily Jimmy [Iovine, chairmen of M.I.A.’s US label Interscope] had beef with the Twilight people, so he stepped in and told them to fuck off.

What do you hope to be doing in 2020?

I’m going to be an artist. Whatever I think an artist is in 10 years. I’ll be doing that.

Oh, ok MIA, tell'em why you mad son!

So what you baiscally trying to say MIA is that Lady Gaga "don't paint pictures, she just trace you (© Jay-Z)" LOL!

I think the most intriguing thing about MIA’s philosophy on the music industry lies in her fiancé/baby daddy’s, Ben Brewer’s lineage.

Ben Brewer-Bronfman
is the oldest son of billionaire Edgar Bronfman Jr. formerly CEO of Seagram and vice-chairman of Vivendi Universal. He’s been the CEO of Warner Music Group (record labels under WMG include: Atlantic, Bad Boy, Elektra, Maverick (Madonna’s label), and Warner Bros, just to name a few).

Edgar Bronfman Jr. is the son of Edgar Miles Bronfman and the grandson of Samuel Bronfman, one of the wealthiest and most influential Jewish families in Canada.

Now marinate on dat!

As you Chicks and Dicks know, we love us some Nas around these parts, but Kelis is our homie too.

The internet in the illustrious words of Kat Stacks“has been going nuts” over the amount the judge awarded Kelis.

A lot of people feel that Kelis should not have been awarded such a large amount of money because either:

1) Nas can't afford to pay that amount monthly; or

2) because seemingly wealthier celebrities like P. Diddy and Russell are paying a fraction of that amount to their baby mothers/ex-wife.

Tracy Nguyen
, Kelis’ former publicist and current manager and business partner vented on Twitter about how mis-informed the “haters” are regarding the specifics of Nas and Kelis’ divorce.

Ok what a lot of people don’t realize is that a judge cannot legally order Nas to pay an amount that he cannot reasonable afford.

When a judge orders one spouse to pay the other less financially stable spouse alimony and/or child support, the judge takes into consideration various factors in coming up with the appropriate figure such as: both spouses’ income; length of marriage; existence or lack thereof pre-nuptial agreement; children and much more.

It should be also noted that the couple own homes in California (community property state), New York, Georgia (Atlanta) and the Dominican Republic.

Although the couple was not married in California, as a rule of thumb, the Plaintiff spouse (the person who files for the divorce) in a divorce petition (in this instance Kelis) can file for a divorce in any state where the couple own marital property and can "attach" the property  in order for the court presiding over the matter to gain personal jurisdicition (I know that's a lot of legal jargon, but walk wit a playa!) over the defendant spouse (Nas).

I have to hand it to Kelis, she was tactful in filing her divorce in California, which is a community property state (recognizes that property acquired during the marriage is owned jointly by the spouses).

BAISCALLY...Ke-Ke get's half of any property (with the exception of gifts or inheritances) acquired during the marriage, regardless of which spouse's funds were used to actually purchase the property.

The idea is, the judge must ensure that when the couple divorces the less financially stable spouse’s lifestyle will not be drastically altered due to the divorce.

In essence, the dependant spouse should remain in a similarly situated (financial) position that he/she was in prior to the divorce.

The court wants to ensure that the dependant spouse (Kelis) will not become a public charge (e.g. the government has to spend public funds to support a dependant spouse who as a result of the divorce is financially needy).

This philosophy is exercised even more so when there is a child involved (cue baby Knight) and no pre-nuptial agreement exist (assuming Nas and Kelis did not have one).

So while Nas’ child and spousal support amount may seem steep to us, TRUST and BELIEVE that Nas has the funds to pay it or else a judge could not lawfully have ordered Nas to pay that amount.

Also, the reason why Nas may be paying more child and spousal support than Russell Simmons and/or P. Diddy may be because:

1) Russell and Kimora may have had a pre-nuptial agreement and

2) Yall forget that Diddy has never married any of his baby mothers (i.e. they’re not afforded wife status no matter how many babies and years they've been together *loud cough* Kim Porter). So, the most that Diddy may be obligated to pay is child support.

Lastly, a lot of people think that Nas doesn’t have money like that because he doesn’t constantly rap about the business moves he’s making or the money he’s holding.

As someone that has followed Nas’ career very closely, let’s just say…dude got money to blow!

Do a little research and you’ll see how JIGGY Nas’ is with the pen; how big his BELLY can get or even how he ROCKS THE BELLS every summer…now marinate on that!

First lady Michelle Obama and the Vice President Joe Biden's wife, Dr. Jill Biden made a surprised stop in Haiti on their way over to Mexico for a three-day trip.

Obama, Biden, Haiti’s President Rene Preval and Haiti’s first lady Elisabeth Debrosse Preval (She's exquisite!) toured Haiti and visited a children’s safe space established by Haitian artist Philippe Dodard.

The Children’s Place is a daily program that feds roughly 2,000 children and individuals displaced by the Hurricane. A group of children sang a song in Creole to Michelle and Jill .“We are glad to see you…. We say let’s be happy.

Awe, that was wonderful that Shelly and Jill visited our folks over in Haiti. It sends a message that the American people as well as the global community has not forgotten about Haiti and that we’re committed to  raising awareness regarding the devastation the hurricane caused Haiti.

On a sadder note, many Haitian officials and healthcare workers are especially concerned during this time of the year because this is the rainy season which leaves the already devastated country prone to more hurricane occurrences.

Chicks and Dicks, please continue to donate whatever money you can spare to Haiti because the worse has not began to be over for them.

Check out this short clip of Michelle and Jill’s arrival in Haiti after the break!

Check out Toni Braxton’s newest video, Make My Heart, which is off of her highly anticipated 6th studio, Pulse. The album is set to be released on May 4, 2010 through Atlantic Records.
Toni looks amazing; her skin is “like butter baby”; and the ‘fits she’s rocking in the video…forgetaboutit!

I’m going to need for Toni to let me ‘hold’ her entire video wardrobe, especially that black see-thru catsuit number…what you ain’t know?

The video has a little something for everybody. The “kids” are serving up serious fever; you got thick madams booties all shaking and moving all aroundand there are even some church ladies equipped with hand fans getting their groove on.

On another note, I couldn’t help but notice how much Toni’s Make My Heart song sounded like Janet Jackson’s Make Me. Did Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produce Toni’s song? Toni even strikes a JJ-ish pose at the end of the video.

Check out Toni's new video after the breaks as well as new videos by Drake, Melanie Fiona and Snoop Dogg featuring Kid Kudi.
